LITTLE MISSES
By
Chief Swift Eagle
Look at the darling four year olds
Next to that wading pool.
Little prissy misses
Trying to keep cool.
See how they spread their towels just so
And pat down each curled edge.
Untuck suit skirt and bathing cap
Avoid the prickly hedge.
Reflections of their mothers
And older sisters too.
These young bathing beauties
Gossip and fret and stew.
About their little problems.
How their hair just is a fright.
"Do you think that I can get it straight
Before the party tonight?"
"Get away! You're splashing water!"
Young scowl could stun an eagle.
Then back to catty small talk.
Reflections of Mama's ego.
