ICE TRUCK:
By
Chief Swift Eagle
Hot summer day in smog-free L.A.
Black street tar bubbles and oozes away.
Brown Model "T" backs out of our drive.
Pollen laden bee buzzes back to his hive.
Here comes the ice truck!
Quick lift the tarp!
Crawl under quickly
And hide in the dark!
Pass me a chip of that
Wood-tasting cool.
Don't let it melt
Or turn to a pool.
We have our pieces.
Quick, jump for your life!
The truck's slowing down
For impatient housewife.
Whew! He didn't see us.
I'm glad we got away.
Good thing the driver makes
Such noise each and every day.
He'll be back tomorrow
With another load of cool.
What happens to the chips in Fall,
When we go back to school?
