  • We are a unique blend of teachers and high-tech experts from around the world, living "internationally."
  • We represent an uncommon cross-roads in thinking that brings together the humanists and the technologists in a way that allows them both to be effective.
  • We are a cooperatively organized corporation and we aim to show as much value for people as for making a living in everything that we do.

We, people of diverse religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions throughout the world, hereby establish the United Religions Initiative to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings.

We respect the uniqueness of each tradition, and differences of practice or belief.

We value voices that respect others, and believe that sharing our values and wisdom can lead us to act for the good of all.

We believe that our religious, spiritual lives, rather than dividing us, guide us to build community and respect for one another.

Therefore, as interdependent people rooted in our traditions, we now unite for the benefit of our Earth community.

We unite to build cultures of peace and justice.

We unite to heal and protect the Earth.

We unite to build safe places for conflict resolution, healing and reconciliation.

We unite to support freedom of religion and spiritual expression, and the rights of all individuals and peoples as set forth in international law.

We unite in responsible cooperative action to bring the wisdom and values of our religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions to bear on the economic, environmental, political and social challenges facing our Earth community.

We unite to provide a global opportunity for participation by all people, especially by those whose voices are not often heard.

We unite to celebrate the joy of blessings and the light of wisdom in both movement and stillness.

We unite to use our combined resources only for nonviolent, compassionate action, to awaken to our deepest truths, and to manifest love and justice among all life in our Earth community."

International Theological University is Fully Recognized and Accredited in America and Internationally as shown above.

International Theological University is NOT Regionally Accredited

Historically, Native American Schools have never been under the U.S. Department of Education.  Native Schools were under the authority of the Department of the Interior and under the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).  The Department of the Interior and BIA made such a mess of the Native Education that the Native Tribes were able, by Act of Congress, to get back control of their own schools.  Once the Tribes had control over their own schools, many, including our Tribe, refused to put their schools under the oversight or control of any Federal Agency such as the Department of Education or the Regional Accrediting Associations.

NOTICE: The United States Department of Education DOES NOT Accredit any High School, College, University or any Education Program.  Here is a Quote from the U.S. Department of Education's Web Page:

 http://www.ed.gov/about/overview/focus/what_pg5.html#doesnot

"An Overview of the U.S. Department of Education

WHAT THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION DOES NOT DO

Under the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." Nothing specific is said about education in the Constitution; therefore it falls outside federal authority.

In creating the Department of Education, Congress made clear its intention that the secretary of education and other Department officials be prohibited from exercising "any direction, supervision, or control over the curriculum program of instruction, administration, or personnel of any educational institution, school, or school system." The establishment of schools and colleges, the development of curricula, the setting of requirements for enrollment and graduation -- these are responsibilities handled by the various states and communities, as well as by public and private organizations of all kinds, not by the U.S. Department of Education."

The Trustees of the International Theological University have decided that the International Theological University will not seek American Regional Accreditation from any of the Big Six Regional Accrediting Associations.

Reasons:

  • Regional Accreditation is a "Voluntary Process" that is not required of Religious or Native American Schools

  • A Regionally Accredited Degree is required for Public School Teachers in all States and for Some State and Federal Employment Situations.  The vast majority (our opinion) of traditional employers do not require that an employee have a degree from a Regionally Accredited School.

  • Ministers and Religious workers do not need a degree from a Regionally Accredited School unless Regional Accreditation of the School is required by their Church Board or as a Requirement of Ordination by the particular Religious Denomination.

  • Individuals in Business for themselves or employed in most Trades and in many professions do not need a Regionally Accredited Degree.

  • Individuals in today's world have sufficient information resources to evaluate programs, schools and universities without depending on the "opinions" of accrediting associations.

  • REGIONAL ACCREDITING ASSOCIATIONS DO NOT GUARANTEE the quality of a school, its programs or acceptability of the Degree by any other school or employer.

  • Regional Accrediting Associations:

    • do not require Regionally Accredited Schools to accept transfer students from other Regionally Accredited Schools

      • Regionally Accredited Schools are not likely to accept transfer students from schools that are not Regionally Accredited

    • do not require Regionally Accredited Schools to accept transfer credits from other Regionally Accredited Schools

      • Regionally Accredited Schools are not likely to accept transfer credits from schools that are not Regionally Accredited

    • do not require all classes to be taught by full Professors instead of Teaching Assistants or Graduate Students

    • do not require all grading to be done by full Professors instead of Teaching Assistants or Graduate Students

    • have little or no respect for International Degrees

    • do not follow UNESCO guidelines for Higher Education

    • try to dictate hiring practices

    • attempt to influence guidelines for faculty selection

    • presume to influence curriculum

    • interfere with Academic Freedom on many levels

    • Demand a Standing Library which is not practical or necessary for a Cyber University

  • Regional Accrediting Associations' policies have not kept up with technology for Distance Education

  • As a Religious and Native American University, International Theological University does not wish to give any group power over its Curriculum, or other Policies.

DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT ITU'S DEGREE GRANTING AUTHORITY

Federal Approval/Jurisdiction

No Agency or Department of the Federal Government, including the U.S. Dept. of Education and/or the U.S. Regional Accrediting Associations, has any jurisdiction over Private Religious Universities/Schools.

The U.S. Dept. of Education and U.S. Regional Accrediting Associations have no jurisdiction over Native American Schools/Universities

State Authority/Jurisdiction

No State has any authority over Cyber Correspondence Schools or over Theological Schools.  No State in the United States of America has any authority over Religious Schools, Theological Universities or Seminaries.

Religious Schools do not need State Authority or to be registered with the State to grant degrees in Religion or Religion related areas of study.  The United States Constitution and All State Constitutions protect Freedom of Religion.  Religious Education has Traditionally been considered an integral part of Religious Freedom.

Question

Answer

What is a "Diploma Mill"? A Diploma Mill is a company that will grant a degree in any subject with little or no work for a fee.

Diploma Mills have no "Degree Granting Authority".

Diploma Mills may be companies that are legal companies or corporations that call themselves Schools, Colleges or Universities.  Just calling itself a School, College or University does not give the company the "Legal Authority" to grant degrees.

All Degree Granting Authority is controlled by the State(s) in the USA or by Ministers of Education in other Countries.

Why isn't ITU a Diploma Mill? ITU is not a Diploma Mill because ITU has "Legal Degree Granting Authority" from two sources.
  • ITU is a Religious School and may grant degrees legally in Religion and Religion related subject areas just as any Baptist, Lutheran, Rabbinical or Mormon College may grant Religious Degrees.
  • ITU is a Native American University and may grant degrees by Authority of an Act of Congress which returned control of the Native Schools to the Tribes.

ITU is not a Diploma Mill because all of the degrees granted by ITU are "Earned Degrees".  Students must complete:

  • BA Degree requires 128 semester units

    • four year course of study

    • Accelerated Degree Program Requires Authentic Assessment of Life Experience to "Challenge" Courses for University Credit

  • MA Degree Requires 48 -108 post BA semester units

    • two to three year course of study

    • Accelerated Degree Program Requires Authentic Assessment of Life Experience to "Challenge" Courses for University Credit

  • Doctor of Divinity or Doctor of Philosophy requires 90 semester units Post Masters

    • three to four year course of study

    • 1000 hours of Community Service

    • 6 months of Mission Work Domestic and/or abroad

    • Completion of an excellent dissertation

  • Professional Track -  Programs are available to students who can demonstrate sufficient Life Experience/Education to qualify.

ITU is not a Diploma Mill because ITU is a Legal University with proper Legal Authority to Grant Degrees and high expectations of all students and faculty.  Undergraduate students must achieve a grade of "B" (3.0) or higher to receive a grade of "Pass" at ITU.  Graduate Students must achieve a grade of "B+" (3.5) or higher to receive a grade of "Pass" at ITU.

Each member of ITU's Faculty holds a "Seasoned" Doctoral Degree or higher.

All student are supervised, counseled and/or evaluated by full Professors and never by Teacher's Assistants or Graduate Students.

How can I be assured that International Theological University is a reliable organization? ITU is a Member of the United States Chamber of Commerce.

ITU is a Member of the Southern California Better Business Bureau.  ITU has a "Triple A" Rating with the Better Business Bureau.

ITU is a Member of the Pacific Basin Consortium which is comprised of 130 schools in ten countries around the Pacific Rim.

ITU was recently invited to Celebrate the 700 year Anniversary of the Pope's University in Rome. See the Invitation: http://www.education-1.net/InvitationToRomeGames.htm

ITU is affiliated with many inter-Faith Groups.

ITU is a Member of National and International Professional Associations:

  • International Educators' Network Association

ITU is run by the Western Federation Tribe and by the Keepers of Creation Church.

ITU is listed among excellent Universities and Colleges on site of the well recognized and respected Grad Schools dot Com.

Individuals may evaluate and verify the Credentials of ITU's Chancellor.

Please view our Quick-Load Page for detailed information.  http://www.education-1.net

Who operates the International Theological University?

The International Theological University is owned and operated by the Western Federation Tribe/Keepers of Creation Church.  The Council of Chiefs has granted to the Chancellor of the University the power and authority for the routine and emergency operation of the International Theological University.

Is the Keepers of Creation Church a "Real Church" Yes, the Keepers of Creation Church is a Native American Church with International Recognition and acceptance.

The Keepers of Creation Church is in Full Communion with the Russian Orthodox Church.  See Concordat

The Keepers of Creation Church is in Full Communion with the Mexican National Catholic Church.  See Concordat

Keepers of Creation Church is in Full Communion with the Pentecostal Overcoming Churches Of The World. See Concordat

ITU is an Inter-Faith University.  What is an Inter-Faith University? ITU is a "True" Inter-Faith University.  Individuals of All Faiths are welcome to attend ITU.  Individuals study the Theology of their own Faith to earn a Degree in their own Faith.

However, individuals are welcome to take classes from any of the Departments if they wish to better understand the Theology of other Faiths.

Are any efforts made to "Convert" individuals to a particular Faith? Absolutely not!  The Right of each person to worship or to follow their own Religion's Theology is Respected.  No person is allowed to attempt to convert another.
What is the approximate Denominational Composition of ITU's Student Body? As of January 2007, ITU's Student Population, by their own identification, is about:
  • 80 % Christian Denominations
    • (includes Native Students)
  •  12 % Islamic
  •    8 % Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, other
Is Legal Authority to grant degrees important? Yes.  Legal Authority to grant degrees is the most important Authority.

There are some businesses that call themselves Colleges, Schools and Universities but they have no Legal Authority to grant degrees.

In the U.S., every State controls the authority to grant degrees to protect the public.

State Departments of Education have lists of qualified schools, colleges and universities.

States do not have any authority over Religious Schools, Native Schools or Correspondence Schools.

Religious Schools may grant degrees only in Religion and Religion Related subject areas.

Can a School, College or University grant a legal degree if they are not Regionally Accredited? Yes.  If a School, College or University has legal degree granting authority, they may grant degrees without Regional Accreditation.

Accreditation is a voluntary process that allows a "Third Party" to evaluate the School, College or University.  Many excellent schools choose not to subject themselves to the narrow view of education held by the Regional Accrediting Associations.

Regional Accreditation is only one bench mark to be considered when evaluating a school.

Fine Universities in America, Russia, Germany, England, Australia etc are not Regionally Accredited by the Regional Accrediting Associations in America.  They are still excellent universities and provide superior educations to their students.

The Regional Associations require a physical campus, standing library, with a certain number of volumes, submission of a syllabus for each offered class, continuing review of faculty qualifications and review of samples of completed assignments.  Regional Accrediting Associations presume to attempt control of curriculum and of Faculty hiring.  Regional Accrediting Associations demand that Schools be run as non-profit entities.

The Western Federation Tribe and the Keepers of Creation Church will not turn over control of its University operations to any group outside of the Church and/or Tribe.

The Business and Management of International Theological University is Tribal rather than Corporate or Non-Profit Corporate.

Doesn't attending a School, College or University that has Regional Accreditation guarantee or at least assure me that I am getting the best possible education and good value for my tuition? No.  Some of the biggest and most reputable universities in America are guilty of some of the most shameful and fraudulent practices in education.

Many of the most reputable schools will attract students with a "Faculty of Stars" in their fields.  However, those "Stars" rarely teach classes or grade the papers of their students.  The students are often taught by TAs (Teaching Assistants) who are graduate students working towards higher degrees.

TAs also grade papers and counsel students.

General Education classes are often taught in huge lecture halls with numbers in the hundreds.  The General Education classes are often taught by new instructors who may not even call themselves "Professor".

State Colleges and Universities do as well at a fraction of the cost to students.

Many Regionally Accredited Universities will tell you that your units are too old, after only a few years, and that you must take classes again.

Many Regionally Accredited Universities will not accept you into their Graduate Programs even if you graduated with Honors from their School or from another Regionally Accredited School.

Is it true that the largest and best known Universities and Colleges have Full Regional Accredited and their Regional Accreditation is beyond question? No! Many very well known Universities and Colleges are electing to leave the Regional Accrediting System.  Their names and reputations allow them to attract students without the Regional Accreditation.

Some Schools have lost Regional Accreditation for some of their programs and must seek re-accreditation.

Some Schools have Regional Accreditation for some programs but other programs within the school are not Regionally Accredited.

Students should ask specific questions about whether a particular degree program is presently Fully Accredited, Provisionally Accredited, or seeking Re-Accreditation.

Doesn't going to the "Biggest" and the "Most Reputable" University mean that I will be able to "Write My Own Ticket" when I graduate "First In My Class"? We would like to think so.  However, the "Real World" can be a very different situation when compared to the ideal.

Consider what would happen if you walked into the Personnel Office of a Fortune 500 Company and the interviewer had graduated from the number 125th ranked college in the country and you had graduated from the number one college and first in the class.

You would like to think that you would be hired immediately.

Why would the Personnel Officer hire you and allow you to become his boss?  You would be a threat to everyone who went to a lesser ranked college or who graduated lower than first in the class.

You would probably have to start your own company to get a job.

Is International Theological University Accredited? Yes.

Fully Accredited by:

  • The Western Federation Church and Tribe
  • The Keepers of Creation Church - A Native Church of the Americas
Is International Accreditation as valuable as Regional Accreditation? It is our opinion that International Accreditation is superior to the U.S. Regional Accrediting.  International Accreditation is becoming increasingly important because many companies are global in their business practices.  Many Business and Military Persons attend university in several countries during their careers.

American Universities have little or no respect for Degrees earned outside of the United States.  Most Foreign Degrees are not recognized by Schools in America.

American Regional Accreditation has little importance to Universities and Businesses in countries other than America.

American Regional Accreditation does not even guarantee that units, or a student, will be accepted within the Region or by another university in a different Region of the U.S.

Universities are always free to establish admissions criteria for incoming students.

Students from other Regions of Accreditation need not be accepted.

However, students from non-regionally accredited schools may be accepted at the discretion of an Admissions Committee of a University.

Could I transfer courses that I take at the International Theological University to another University? Each university may decide for itself whether it will accept courses completed at another university. Many universities will accept some credit from other schools.  Most universities try to limit the amount of credit that they accept because each credit that they accept reduces the amount of tuition that will be available from the student.
Could I use my Bachelor's Degree from International Theological University to get into graduate school? Yes.  Graduates from the International Theological University's Bachelor of Arts Program are immediately eligible for admission into any of the International Theological University's Graduate Programs.
After ITU, could I go to graduate school at another university? Yes.  You may apply to any university graduate school of your choice.  Most graduate schools give preferential treatment to their own undergraduates followed by preference to graduates of their major competitors.

Graduate Schools often use the score that you receive on the Graduate Records Exam to determine if they will accept you.  Many Graduate Schools will accept you if they have room and if you are willing to pay the tuition.  Graduate Schools also consider your family income to anticipate gifts when you are an alumnus.

You are more likely to be accepted to a graduate school if you have taken the appropriate and requisite classes in preparation for the graduate school you wish to attend.  A BS in Biology may not be the appropriate preparation for an MBA program.  A BA in Accounting would not be appropriate for entrance into Medical School. etc.

If the Graduate School requires that your degree be from a Regionally Accredited School, ITU's Degree is not likely to be accepted by the Graduate School.  However, a degree from a Regionally Accredited School does not guarantee that any Graduate School will accept you even if you attended the same school as an undergraduate.

Is ITU Recognized as a Reputable Graduate School?

Yes, International Theological University listed on the Grad Schools.Com site

  GradSchools.com

GradSchools.com is a Member of:

  • Council of Graduate Schools, Washington, DC

  • NAGAP: National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals

Who grants degrees in Theology and Religious Studies? Many of the major private universities have Colleges of Theology.

The California State University System offers a Degree in Religious Studies.  It is our belief that the States should leave Religious Education to Schools of Theology and Seminaries.

Why should I get a degree in Divinity, Religious Studies, World Religions, - Theology? There is no better preparation for business, politics, social work, the ministry, counseling, or life than a degree in Divinity, Religious Studies or Theology.  The study of Religion is the study of Humanity and the Human Condition.  Before Psychology, there was religion.  Before Social Science, there was religion.   Religion, history/politics/economics continue to be woven together even in today's global economy.
What are some of the "Religious Related" Degrees? ITU offers Degrees in "Business Ethics", "Ethics and Family Values", "Religious Education/Family Values", "Ethics/Political Science", "Christian Theology/Missionary", Diplomacy, Peace Studies, Women's Studies etc.
Can I use my degree from ITU to be a teacher? Yes.  Your degree from International Theological University is a valid degree and will be accepted by many private schools to allow you to teach.

All of the United States of Americas' States require teachers to graduate from schools that are accredited by particular accrediting agencies to qualify for a State Teacher's Credential.

Check with your particular State to determine Teacher Certification Requirements for teaching in public schools.

Doesn't Accrediting by an Agency that has been recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education for a teaching credential mean that all States and Colleges will have to accept my Degree? No.

Teacher Certification by one State is not usually accepted by another State.  Each State has its own requirements for Teacher Certification.

A few States have Reciprocal Agreements which means that each State will accept the other State's Teaching Credential as valid without additional preparation.

Can I use my degree from ITU to get a job? Yes.  You may list your degree on your resume.

Employers value individuals of high moral fiber and integrity.  A Degree from a Theological School says something about the type of person that you are.  It infers that you are a Religious and Moral person.  It indicates that you value Traditions and are likely to bring with you, to the job, honesty and the ability to get along with others.  Your degree shows that you have the ability to complete a task over time.

How can you grant degrees for such low tuition? The International Theological University is set up as an Electronic Correspondence School or Cyber University.  All courses are self-directed.  There is no physical campus to maintain or to drain resources.

Our faculty members are independent professionals who read and grade papers on a pay for read arrangement.  The University does not have to maintain a large on campus faculty to provide service to our students.

All education resources for students are available on the Internet.  The University does not have to maintain a large physical library or book store.

The University does not have to provide student housing, parking, medical care or security.

Will I get an Official Transcript from ITU if I get my degree based on my Life Experience/Education alone? For the Accelerated Degree Program, ITU uses Authentic Assessment to compare a person's experience with a set of traditional courses.  A person may receive credit for each course for which their experience has provided the same knowledge and experience that the college course would have provided.

Once credit is granted for a successful "Challenge to a Course" the Credit granted is the same as credit that is granted for a traditional Classroom Course.

ITU issues an Official Transcript with each degree.

Two transcripts are provided in sealed envelops and a third is issued open for review or to copy.

Will my transcript from ITU look like a transcript for any other major university? Transcripts from ITU look better than the usual micro fiche copy that is provided by most universities.

ITU keeps all records on Modern Computer DVDs.

Each requested transcript is produced as an original document that is clean and clear.  The University then updates the Student's Contact information and embosses the Transcript with the appropriate Seals before sending to the requestor.

How can I get a transcript if I did not attend regular classes? A person who qualifies for a degree based on Life Experience/Education has their experience compared to regular classes that could be taken from ITU.

If a person has Verified Life Experience/Education for the knowledge that they would have acquired by taking the class, we will grant them credit and put the class on their transcript.

Many colleges will allow you to challenge a course by taking a test instead of completing the class by attending sessions.

ITU allows you to challenge courses with your Life Experience/Education instead of testing.  Life is a test and you pass if you are making it in the real world.  The process is called "Authentic Assessment".

(example: A person could take a class in Ancient Civilizations in college and earn three units of credit.  The person would read a text book, see some slides and perhaps write a term paper.

An individual could gain the same information, or more, from Travel and/or from watching PBS Specials on Egypt, Rome, China, Greece, etc and by watching movies such as "Cleopatra", "Jason and the Argonauts", "Gladiator" etc.  A person could also gain the information from independent reading and study.)

Will my Transcript have letter grades or "Pass/Fail"? International Theological University uses the English System of Grading which is "Pass or Fail".

ITU demands excellence from all students.

Undergraduates must receive a grade that is equivalent to a "B - 3.0", or higher, to receive a grade of "Pass".

Graduate Students must receive a grade that is equivalent to "B+ 3.5", or higher, to receive a grade of "Pass".

How do I apply to the University? All American Students must apply by telephone interview.  The same information that would be taken on an application is taken on the phone.  The advantage of the telephone interview is that students know immediately if they qualify for a degree based on their life experience.  Any required supporting documents may be sent later.
