Creation

As the mists cleared
On the forest floor
Before there was a forest
The Great Spirit smiled.

The Great Spirit divided Herself.
Said She to Her mirror Being,
"Let Us make a place for many Spirits."
Her image responded with His deepest respect,
"As you wish, My Love."

The mists began to clear.
A vast land covered with great trees appeared.
Waterfalls roared with laughter
As they filled the seas.

Banks and cliffs of galloping clouds
Tumbled ever upward
Then split by lightening
Showered the Earth.

Mountains turned the rain to snow.
Desert transformed the rain to flowers.
Valleys burst from their loins the grasses
Which gave birth to the wind.

The wind whistled and twirled
Among leaves who were set free
To become the singing birds.

Some birds flew high among the cliffs.
Others lingered over water.
As each grew hungry,
The Great Spirit provided fish.

Many more Spirits were made
So all of the places would be filled.
Each place was filled.
The Spirit was One with All.

The Great Spirit gazed into her Mirror Spirit's eyes.
"Come Love", said She, "Let us join."
As They joined, their breath formed
A man and a woman.

The Spirits rested.
As they rested the children of Their Love
Formed a Tribe.
The Tribe was Peaceful and Happy.

Some of the Tribe feared the water.
Others of the Tribe would not venture into the forest.

The Great Spirit took the hand of her Reflection.
"Go among our People and ease their minds."

"Bid them to fill their hearts with joy
So no fear may enter."

"Show them that they are one with all things."

"Challenge their courage to raise their children without fear."

"Teach them gratitude for all that has been given to them."

That part of the Great Spirit
Did as He was directed.

The children were good
And filled with Love and Appreciation.

The Great Spirit was pleased.

She took each of her children and gave them a sign.

She took each by their toes and head.
Toes in Her left hand, head in Her right.

She stretched forth her hands before her.

Into the sea She dipped the backside of each.

To this day, each of her children

Is born with a blue bottom.

This She did to remind her children
That they are of both land and sea.
