Structure: English System of "Reading" a Subject
Self-directed and Independent Study and/or Life Experience
Students must submit a course description for each area of study prior to beginning their studies for the semester. Self-directed Study allows each student to tailor their own education to meet their needs and interest(s).
Example: A student may wish to study American History. American History now fills over 40 volumes. A student might write the following Course Description:
"American History - The American Civil War from Disputes over States' Rights through the Assassination of Lincoln"
Materials - any combination of:
Internet resources
library resources
video
audio tapes
textbooks
Life Experience
Length of Each Class or Seminar: one semester
Credit: 3 Semester Units or Credits
Delivery Methods:
Self-Directed and/or
Life Experience
Materials are not sent out from the University. Students are not limited to a single textbook or set of lectures. Students should avail themselves of the latest and best resources on the Internet to learn about each subject.
Textbooks are optional.
