All Courses:

• Structure: English System of "Reading" a Subject

  • University Directed: 

    • Students will be provided with a Syllabus for each class which includes a description of the course content and Internet links to the course content

  •  

  • Self-directed and Independent Study 

    • Students must submit a course description for each area of study prior to beginning their studies for the semester.  Self-directed Study allows each student to tailor their own education to meet their needs and interest(s).

      • Example: A student may wish to study American History.  American History now fills over 40 volumes.  A student might write the following Course Description: 

      "American History - The American Civil War from Disputes over States' Rights through the Assassination of Lincoln"

• Materials - any combination of:

  • Internet resources

  • library resources

  • video

  • audio tapes

  • textbooks

  • Life Experience

• Length of Each Class or Seminar: one semester

• Credit:  3 Semester Units or Credits

• Delivery Methods:

  • University Directed and/or

  • Self-Directed and/or

  • Life Experience

  • Students are not limited to a single textbook or set of lectures.  Students should avail themselves of the latest and best resources on the Internet to learn about each subject.

    • Textbooks are optional.

• Evaluation Methods:

  • Term Paper as a Final Exam and/or

  • Authentic Assessment - Life Experience

  • Testing for Math and for Sciences
