Book of Common Native Prayer

Prayer to the Great Spirit:

 Thank you for all of the Love, Kindness, Joy and Blessings in our lives and for all of the Beauty in Creation.

No other prayer is needed.  We do not ask for things or plead for favors.  The Great Spirit knows our needs.  We need only be grateful for the Good and to say, "Thank You" at every opportunity.  It is not necessary to repeat prayers over and over in endless litanies.  The Great Spirit is not hard of hearing nor is it necessary to say what is in our hearts if our Thanks are sincere.  Just say, thank you, whenever you realize something for which you should be grateful.

Here are some examples:

• waking up in the morning

• the smile of your child

• picking fruit from a tree

• being able to go to a market to get food

• modern conveniences

• being able to drive to work

• having a job

• family

• friends

• clouds

• rain

• mountains

• flowers

• trees

• animals

• good health

• body parts that work properly

• all of our senses

• etc. etc.
